ANNUAL AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY FUNDRAISER,
THE 2007 CATTLE
BARON'S BALL
By Diane Jones
For
the second year in a row Windt im Wald Farm had the privilege of
being a sponsor for the
Cattle Baron's
Ball, the biggest fundraiser on behalf of Finding the Cure for
Cancer in Cleveland, Ohio. Like the fundraiser last year, this year's
CBB took place at the
Bart and Iris Wolstein Convocation Center at Cleveland State
University. Nearly everyone came dressed in cowboy garb, from wool
felt ten-gallon type hats to knee-high boots to leather vests and
checkered-shirts. What a pleasure to see so many cowboys and cowgirls
in downtown Cleveland! What we have learned is that so many folks
have dreams of being able to enjoy unlimited vistas under the sky,
to enjoy the fresh air, and to have a horse under their legs. CBB
provided these Cowpokes for the Night with nearly all these opportunities
even if rainy weather did not afford them a clear view of the stars
on the night of October 27.
Supreme Tsamaz, our registered ¾ Arabian mare, calmly walked through
the open crystal "man" door into the Wolstein Center without even
thinking twice, even as the white curtains blew wildly in the breeze
created by the open door. The white wisps resembled phantoms during
this Halloween season, but she was totally unflappable as she took
her place of honor in the lush straw in front of the "Red Barn"
and the opportunity to eat it . As usual, she was dressed up in
her bosal with web reins, without bit or bridle and totally unfazed
by photographers' flashbulbs or the bustling of busboys in white
shirts and dress pants. She was simply delighted to feel the straw
under her feet and the adoration of the attendees and other exhibitors,
who admired her good looks and placid demeanor. Nearly all the attendees
chose to have their pictures taken with Tsammie, their chance to
say they'd been up close and intimate with a real-live horse. She
was a true champ, and so were they! Many thanks to the
Saline
Fiddlers, a youth group in its twelfth year, who came to admire
Tsammie as the Horse of Honor!
Many
thanks to all the volunteers and guests who braved a cold, dreary
night to help make this event a success. As most Clevelanders know,
the temperatures dropped low enough to produce frost, although many
of the guests came without heavy outer clothing to "make a difference"
for this most worthy of causes. It is through the efforts of dedicated
individuals like these that we will reach the goal of saving human
lives from the ravages of cancer so that everybody with a dream
can live long enough to achieve it and make a difference in other
ways for the Cleveland community. As a survivor who was privileged
to enjoy the therapy of two great individuals like my Tom and our
Tsammie, I am proud to say that I am personally determined to lick
cancer. Thanks to the efforts of organizer Linda Campbell and her
team of indefatigable volunteers, the entire Cleveland Community
has a priceless opportunity to lick cancer with the support
of sponsors and supporters of the Cattle Baron's Ball.
We are grateful for our many blessings. We hope that, when you take
time to be grateful for your blessings and to remember your friends
and relatives who struggled bravely, you will find some way to give
back indefatigably to lick cancer. We all make a difference!
Support cancer research.
Support the Cleveland Cattle Barons Ball! God Bless each and every
one of you for supporting Life!
