From the Muntifiq
tribe Abbas Pasha got QUMIZ, a Samhan-Hafi,
while Ali Pasha Sherif got MAHROUSA
(APS), a Wadnan Khursan. The stallion, *KISMET,
a Muniqi-Hadruj was imported into England in 1884 and may have been
from the Muntifiq since he was described as a "Keheilan-Muntifik".
The Blunt's Abayyan Sharrak stallion, SAADUN
was also bred by the Muntifiq.
Thanks to Margaret Greely for
the photo of Saadun.

QUMIZ
(AP) EGYPT (I)
A ca. 1850 Samhan-Hafi stallion of Ibn
Rumayyis of the Muntifiq given to Ibn Mubarak Ibn Subah.
Al Khalifah of Kuwait and imported prior to 1855 to Egypt for Abbas
Pasha. Also called Al Qumiz.
By Shalul, a Samhan of Ibn Hammadi by
a Samhan and out of Zahra, a Samhah of the Muntif'q by a Samhan.
NOTES: The above information (except
for the dates which are Al Khamsa estimates) is from entry #7880
in Carl Raswan's Index.

MAHROUSA
(APS) EGYPT (I)
A ca. 1870 grey Wadnah-Khursaniyah mare
bred by Bandar Ibn Sa'dun. Sheikh of the Muntifiq and imported
by 1875 to Egypt, where he was owned by Ali Pasha Sherif. Also called
Bint Faras Saouda.
Mahroussa's dam was Faras Saouda, a "black"
Wadnah-Khursaniyah of Bandar Ibn Sa'dun.
NOTES: The above information (except
for the dates, which are Al Khamsa estimates and the names Mahroussa
and Wadna) is from Archer et al: The Crabbet Arabian Stud,
p. 100, based on access to records of the Blunts. Lady Anne Blunt
in a herd book entry for Mahruss (BLT) describes this mare not by
name, but as the grey daughter of the 'black' mare of Bandar Ibn
Sa'dun (courtesy of Michael Bowling, personal communication). Carl
Raswan's Index entry #57777 has the same information as shown
above, adding the names Mahroussa and Wadna.
Dam of: Mahruss (APS) ca. 1875 by Wazir (APS)

*KISMET
253 HUNTINGTON
An 1877 chestnut stallion imported in
1882 to India by the aqayl, Abd Ar-Rahman, then imported in 1884
to England by Mr. Broadwood, and finally imported in 1891 to the
U.S.A. by Randolph Huntington.
NOTES: The above information, which shows
no strain, is from *Kismet's entry in Weatherby's General Stud
Book Vol. XVI p. 657. *Kismet's strain on his AHC registration
application is listed as "Keheilan- Montefik." but the stud book
entry reads "Maneghi- Hedruj." The AHR Mu'niqi-Hadruj strain information
appears to have been provided by Huntington. Entry # 5224 in Raswan's
Index quotes the GSB entry but follows Huntington's lead
in showing *Kismet as Mu'niqi-Hadruj. The Index entry erroneously
attributes the "Keheilan- Montefik" information to the GSB entry.
The Muntifiq is a tribe. (See the list and map of Bedouin
tribes, pp. 10-11.)

SAADUN(BLT)
BLUNT
A 1906 bay Abayyan-Sharrak stallion bred
by Sheikh Mishar Ibn Sa'dun of the Muntifiq and imported in 1911
to Egypt by Lady Anne Blunt. Also spelled Saadoun.
By an Abayyan-Sharrak out of an Abayyah-Sharrakiyah.
NOTES: The above information (except
for the dates) is from the 1932 certified pedigree from the RAS
for *Bint Bint Durra. The information is consistent with the
RAS History p. 36 and Lady Anne Blunt's Sheykh Obeyd herd book
entry for Saadun (Pearson, 1988, p. 146). The herd book adds the
dates and says Saadun died 1917. Entry #8746 in Carl Raswan's
Index shows the same information as the Sheykh Obeyd herdbook.
The RAS History, p. 102, mistakenly says Lady Anne Blunt
bred Saadun. Saadun was also called Abeyan in Blunt records.
